Soldat = soldier. In Sweden every 2-5 farmer/freeholder had to provide for one soldier. The soldier lived in a small cottage and had a small bit of land which he farmed to feed his family. When the soldier died, the wife and children had to move because a new soldier would be hired and move in to the property.
Båtsman = boatman ( a soldier at sea )

Kolare = a man who made charcoal of wood
Birkarl = a man who trade with the oldest inhabitants in the north of Sweden, samerna. ( called lapparna at the time)
